Lots of hats on parade added to a fun afternoon at Coco Plum Woman’s Club on August 16th for Ann’s 14th Annual English High Tea, named after founding tea party chairperson Ann Robson.

The event, held at the club’s historic clubhouse, was a true team effort led by Chairperson Gabrielle Martonffy bringing in more than $4,100.00 to benefit homeless students at FIU.

In fact, the club even recruited a handsome looking group of husbands, one being a fellow Rotarian Nicolas Eterovic, and other male friends to serve as waiters. They kept everyone’s food trays full of great tea sandwiches, scones, petit fours and more made by members with tea brought back by Ann Robson from her annual visit to the British Isles.

The afternoon finished off with prize announcements and a hat parade during which contestants sashayed around the room through the tables to the music of DJ JP, of JP Productions. Winners included Norma Cooper (most whimsical), Pat Saunders (most original), and Marion Weiss (Most elegant). Among the many enjoying the afternoon included Linda Hartwell, Ruth Martinez, Magarette Beauchamp, Yolanda Woodbridge, Charlene Feldner, Shirley Pardon, Heike Leibkuchler and Jena Staly, to mention a few.

As South Miami Garden Club kicked off their year with the club’s annual membership cocktail fundraiser at the beautiful home of club President Annie Goodrich-Sorgie. It was another team effort as members prepared food and donated the wine. South Miami Garden club are renowned for their culinary skills and have a caterer in the club who brought delicious treats. Guests enjoyed a raffle or two, like money trees, donated by a member who owns a very well-known nursery.

Annie advises that their club has all of their programs and field trips planned for the year, thanks to Co- 1st Vice Presidents, Ellen Book and Norma Craig, who are both master gardeners.

Those interested in joining the SM Garden Club, may reach out to 2nd Vice President Aminta Konawicz at e-mail AmintaRealtor@gmail.com. The South Miami Garden Club meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.at the South Miami Coral Gables Elks Lodge located in South Miami.

In other club women activity, coming up on September 30, yet another great club event is in the planning stages. The Miami Woman’s Club has two designers and several models lined up for a great Fashion Show fundraiser at their beautiful historic building. Save the Date!

Finally, Gables Rotarians had a new members mixer/orientation party recently at Season’s 52 that included their sponsors and past presidents for a wonderful intimate fellowship event organized by past president Yoli Woodbridge with Immediate Past President Ana Fournaris conducting self introductions. Among those enjoying the evening with this writer were Felix Pardo, Jim Skinner, Sally Baumgartner, Jeneissy Azcuy, Dipak Joshi, Ana Fournaris, Mitchell Zuriarrain as well as Gui and Amanda Fujisawa and new baby, Giulia.

Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings, be kind and make a difference.
