Doral’s International Business Development Advisory Board, chaired by Juan Casimiro, held a lovely reception for the Consular Corps at City Hall on Nov. 20th. Mayor Luigi Boria was joined by Members of the City Council Ana Maria Rodriguez and Pete Cabrera to welcome the representatives of numerous South Florida Consulates. While enjoying refreshments, the guests viewed the work of some talented artists including Liliana Botero. Among the crowd enjoying the affair was Philip Wang, Director General Philip T.Y. Wang of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Miami; DBC Chair Raul Pino; Charles Chang; Armando Arana Sequeira; Graciela Boria; and Efrain Sora, of Soral Global, to mention a few.
The 29th Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon packed the ballroom at Jungle Island in a program that honored several notable individuals and organizations for their good work and generosity. The affair, co-chaired by Patrick Morris, of Sabadell Bank, and Barbara Norland, of The Women’s Fund of Miami- Dade, was held on November 12th. Among the honorees were Sonja Zuckerman (Lifetime Achievement Award), Jorge Perez (Outstanding Philanthropist), David Lawrence, Jr. (James W. McLamore Outstanding Volunteer), Macy’s (Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Julia Tuttle Award for Community Involvement and Corporate Citizenship), and The Miami Foundation (Outstanding Grantmaker).
In other Doral News, the Doral Business Council, with the help to secure tickets from IG Travel, invited author and entertainment lawyer from Hollywood, CA, Darell Miller, to speak at its November 11th Signature Breakfast. As an entertainment attorney with high profile clients, Miller has seen people lose it all after being very wealthy. He entertained the crowd discussing his book, The 16th Minute of Fame, addressing the challenge of maintaining success beyond one’s 15 minutes of fame.
The Doral Farmers Market on Sundays at 97th Avenue and NW 41st Street is starting to draw larger crowds and more vendors now that the weather in improving. It is always great to see new entrepreneurs with great affordable items for holiday giving to co workers, etc. One of the newer vendors sells homemade soy candles that smell of one’s favorite aromas. In fact, Pitter Patter Candles’s Suggie (Catherine Patterson) will even costume make scents for her customers. Doral Farmers Market organizer Danny Kaskel has added yet another local farmers market location in Sweetwater on Saturday. That market, located at 250 SW 114 Ave., will have a special emphasis on produce and packaged foods. That location at has the added benefit for many of accepting food vouchers.
