Countless festivities create a happy holiday season

Holiday parties and events by nonprofits and businesses around South Florida always bring to life the spirit of the season.

During a holiday party at the CFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club on Dec. 4 club members and guests enjoyed dinner and dancing to the sounds of DJ Corey.

This annual party for the general membership and guests, chaired by Mayra Dominguez, was held at the club’s beautifully decorated historic building that houses the club’s free children’s dental clinic. Dental clinic director Dr. Iris Torres-Rivera notes that the clinic provides approximately 500 children a year with a healthy smile.

This membership party and a holiday board of directors’ dinner on Dec. 11 at the Loew Hotel Coral Gables was a well-deserved break after a busy few months helping those in need. From distributing food baskets and gift cards for children of needy families, doing environmental cleanups, and participating in charity walks, to holding monthly Gringo Bingo fundraisers that have benefitted numerous charitable outreach efforts, this club works nonstop.

President Arely Ruiz and the club have been featured in Coral Gables Magazine and, most recently, Arely was on the front cover of CN’s Inspire Health Magazine where she used the platform to promote her club and its members.

Speaking of giving, Scott and Belinda Sime, of SIME Realty, conducted their annual toy drive and holiday party on Dec. 14, collecting hundreds of toys for the Lighthouse for the Blind and other charities. This is always one of the best parties of the year with such a great mission.

South Florida’s second oldest business networking group, Profit Inc., held its holiday party at Caffe Abbracci where its president, Carlos Ribero, welcomed a great crowd of members who have helped grow the organization and gifted everyone with a bottle of bubbly. Every guest was asked to bring a raffle gift, and so everyone went home with a gift and some holiday spirit.

Seen enjoying the luncheon were Donald and Maria Van Orsdel, Bob and Elena Kemper, Robert Beans, Daneza Soccaras, Lawanda Loftus, Thomas Avila, Mike and Susan Sutta, Bruce Bounds, Iris and Will Segui, Al Del Risco, Cesar Hoed De Beche and Javier Fernandez.

In other corporate events, on Dec. 6, Melanie De Armas’ RE/MAX Advance Realty agents and guests gathered at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables for a reception at the fountain followed by an elegant dinner gala, dancing and entertainment throughout the evening. Among 200 people attending the affair were Anthony and Lisa Askowitz, Jerome Kavulich, Steve Medina and “Miami Hal” Hal Feldman. Many of you readers may know Hal from his podcast at Miami’s Community Newspapers.

On the festival front, Junior Orange Bowl (Jr. OB) Basketball is getting great talent again this year at the upcoming tournament chaired by Jr. OB past president Chuck Little. On Dec. 27, 28 and 30, (Friday, Saturday and Monday), Chuck has scheduled eight games a day on Friday and Saturday at Westminster Christian School starting at 10 a.m. The championship games will be on Sunday with the Girls’ Championship at 7:30 p.m. and the Boys’ Championship at 9 p.m.

These Jr. OB events are great events to attend with your children during the holidays and are either free or very affordable for all. Tennis and golf tournaments offer everyone a chance to see future professionals like many who have participated in the past like Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, and more. The same can be said of the Jr. OB Tennis. For more information on the Junior Orange Bowl events as well as sponsor and volunteer opportunities, visit jrorangebowl.org.

The calendar for 2025 already is filling up with great charitable fundraisers. Mark your calendars for Voices For Children’s 2025 Be a Voice Gala to be held at the luxurious Mandarin Oriental Miami on Jan. 18. This year’s event, themed “Fostering Hope,” will celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary and the impact it has made on the lives of children and youth in foster care. Voices For Children CEO Kadie Black advises that tickets for this “over the top” affair are going fast. For information, visit www.beavoice.org.

In 2025, PAWS4you also has plans for a gala in March at the Cruise Building in Coconut Grove with a Mardi Gras theme that promises to be fun. In addition, they are also planning a golf tournament in May at the Miami Beach Country Club. Dates for both events will be announced later. The founder and CEO of PAWS4you, Carol Caridad, was a recent guest on my Gloria’s Gab LIVE show with Balanced Paws owner Franco Sicheri, a man who has turned his passion into a business as a bit if a dog whisperer. Franco has helped has take clients’ problem dogs correcting bad behavior. He also trained Carol’s staff as well as their problem dogs to avoid having them returned. If you are thinking of adopting a dog, this is a good podcast to watch at www.cnews.net. Click on top menu – podcasts and host Gloria Burns.

Until next time, have a joyful holiday season.
