Volleyball players of all ages are gathering for a huge tournament that draws 44 teams from all over the county with the proceeds benefiting Dig Like Kim, a non-profit founded by Donna and Chuck Latshaw after their amazing daughter Kim died at 47 years old in 2021 of pancreatic cancer. She was an amazing player at Palmetto Sr. High School where she ultimately coached and inspired students like few others. Dig Like Kim is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to deserving high school volleyball players who need help to further develop their skills and improve exposure. Kim’s dad, Chuck Latshaw, was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to promote the event and share Kim’s story. This year’s tournament will be held at Coral Reef Park (7895 SW 152 St.) on May 4, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will be music, food trucks, and lots of other activities for all. Spectators are free to come and join the fun.
In other news, it has been an active month with The Villagers Garden 2025 Garden Tour on Saturday, March 8. Five couples opened their outdoor areas so that attendees could walk through and enjoy their magnificent gardens. Tour Chair, Carmen Diaz-Padron, and Co-Chair, Molly Gail Kiely were most grateful to those who welcomed the crowds to their properties that day including Eddy and Sisi Arazoza, Wirth and Kirsten Munroe, Daniel and Carolina Bustamante, Roger and Mariela Tovar, and Jon and Judy Zeder. For this writer, the fun began at Christ the King Lutheran Church at the boutique where an assortment of lovely jewelry, handcrafts, baked goods and orchids were on sale. Of course, Rita’s Pop Up Café, always a hit, provided a nice menu to complement the Garden Tour that ran from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Later that evening of March 8, Paws4You held its annual gala, “Mardi Paws.” As the name suggests, you can bet it was a colorful, fun and entertaining evening. On hand were some precious adoptable dogs and lots of activities including a silent and live auction, music, dancing, casino games and a gourmet dinner all held at the beautiful Cruz Building in Coconut Grove. Among the lovely crowd was Paws4you founder and CEO, Carol Caridad; Zoo Miami’s Ron Magill with his wife, Rita; Ben Mollere, of Baptist Hospital and wife, Marcia Mollere, of Ritz Carlton.
