On July 18, the Doral Bar Association offered members and business leaders a free seminar to address recent changes U.S. Immigration policy and how it affects foreign workers. The event was held at at Concrete Space at 3400 NW 78 Avenue in Doral.
As guests enjoyed a light breakfast and beverages, many took the opportunity to view the marvelous exhibitions at the gallery. It was the first visit there for this writer and will not be the last. This gallery is an amazing cultural arts resource and the open space lends itself to events such as this seminar.
Among the many enjoying the morning and getting a brief tour by Marcelo with this writer were the DBA’s founding president Santiago Cueto, Andreas Kelly, Lillian Ser, and Alvaro Sandino, to mention a few. On exhibition currently is a selection of work by Abstract Impressionist from Cuba Nela Arias-Misson.
Yet another amazing artist on exhibition is photographer Lisl Steiner, born in 1927 Vienna. Lisl has captured thousands of images of icons and events like no other and is recognized as one of the world’s most original photographers in journalism and portrait photography. On display are many global personalities… definitely a must see exhibition.
In other news, a very stormy day did not deter guests from celebrating AutoTrust International’s 3rd Anniversary at Cooperhawk Winery in City Place on July 18. Yari Avila welcomed the guests introducing her dad Juan Avila and mother Doris. Father, Juan, who started the company after working for more than 15 years in the luxury auto repair industry, has earned a reputation for excellence and honesty. This is truly a family business with customer service being a priority. It was obvious from the turn out at the event that their clients and vendors have become friends.
On another topic, keeping our soldiers in the forefront are the many South Floridians volunteering at the Armed Forces Service Center. This center at the Miami International Airport provides a great lounge area for traveling military to shower, enjoy refreshments, relax, and wait between flights. The center recently enjoyed a day with the Marlins organized by Advisory Council Chairman Michael Kesti who recognized the Marlins for their ongoing support and presented Miami Marlins’ Brad Ladlow with an Armed Forces Service Center cap in thanks.
In other news, coming up this fall, there are numerous events to fill your calendars. The 5th Edition Catwalk for Charity Fashion Show & Luncheon will be held Sept. 9, between noon and 4 p.m., at the Fontainebleau Hotel Miami Beach with fashions presented by Saks Fifth Avenue. This event benefits the Haitian Chrildren’s Fund. Also in September, the St. Jude’s Walk is scheduled for Sept. 22 at Miami Dade County Fair & Expo/ Tamiami Park, 10901 SW 24 St. For information, contact Jess.cerda@stjude.org
The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club will hold their annual Halloween Party on October 20, which is always one of the best Halloween parties in South Florida. That same evening A Safe Haven for Newborns will hold their Annual Gala. Finishing up October for now, PACE Center for Girls 5th Annual Believing in Girls Luncheon will be held Thursday, October 25, at the Hotel Colonnade (180 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables). The following month, 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held November 3, at Museum Park, one of many city walks supported by National Sponsor for the Walk, Edward Jones. Look for more on all these in upcoming issues.
