Fall events continue to support worthy programs whose impact is felt in every corner.

A Safe Haven for Newborns’ event was another outstanding success on Oct. 25 at the Intercontinental Miami. A sellout crowd of supporters enjoyed a night to remember with ASHFN’s founder and CEO Nick Silverio who works 24/7 at no salary to save babies from abandonment and expectant moms in crisis.

The magical evening provided non-stop entertainment with a reception during which guests had an opportunity to bid on hundreds of fabulous items, followed by a gourmet dinner, floor show and dancing. CBS Channel 4’s Lauren Pastrana returned once again to emcee the program during the dinner hour when speakers gave inspiring testimonials with a moving video presented on large screens as a bonus.

ASHFN is looking to build its own offices as the organization impact has grown beyond Florida and a permanent home is needed. Look for photos the affair in an upcoming issue with info on ASHFN’s annual golf tournament in May 2026.

As a followup to Cancer Link’s Annual Luncheon “Hope Blooms in Pink” that featured a fashion show by Julian Chang, the affair raised $230,000. Proceeds were directed to the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute.

Kudos to Cancer Link founder and chair Marlene Berg and the many sponsors including the Mickey and Madeline Arison Foundation, Anthony R. Abraham Foundation and others, as well as the many volunteers who made the event such a success.

The 70th anniversary of the Young Patronesses of the Opera celebrated the milestone with a gala on Nov. 8, at the Intercontinental Miami. Gala co-chair Sue Medina and Leigh Pollack were guests on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to promote their eveny and the good works YPO is doing in our community. YPO’s volunteers go into local schools to expose students to opera at an early age.

Surenas at Merrick Park hosted a pop up for Leticia Matheus’ Lele Reis Jewelry collection that served as a mini fundraiser to support the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) free children’s dental clinic. That General Federations of Women’s (GFWC) club not only owns and maintains its historic clubhouse on E. Ponce de Leon Boulevard, but also operates on that site its clinic for children of the working poor. That night club members and friends gathered to shop with 20 percent of the revenue being donated to CGWC.

Among the many attending the affair with this writer were Arely Ruiz, Ruth Martinez, Aileen Ortega, Ana Lam, Rita Tennyson, Joelle, Clora Adkins, Rose Martin, Kristina Jackson, and Iris Seguí.

The holidays are upon us and most of us are taking out decorations for the season. Ladies from the CGWC are fortunate to be able to attend an Art Club meeting every month with an opportunity to learn a new craft. With the holidays in mind, at the October meeting, everyone was charged with holiday wreath making. Led by Alex Guillen, an amazing physical therapist and creative woman of many talents, comes up with different ideas every month to expose members to new projects.

Thanks to a huge donation of ribbons from club member Kristina Jackson the group made some amazing wreaths that many are sharing to brighten the season for others.
