Fall is upon us and there are actually fans in the stadiums for sporting events, not the least of which is my favorite, football, and lots of charity events that had been postponed in 2020. One event that survived the pandemic closures with some creative planning was Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Gringo Bingo hosted by Clutch Burger with music donated by DJ Germain and sponsored by EZ Title Services and 1st Empire Elite Financial. As of the September 7th event, the monthly bingo party has raised almost $14,000 with funds distributed to multiple charities. Most recently, Coral Gables Woman’s Club shared the proceeds between the club charitable giving and Coral Gables Rotary’s relief efforts in Haiti through Ecoworks and Shelter Box USA. Next Gringo Bingo for charity is scheduled for October 5, 7-9 p.m. To RSVP, email gloria@cnews.net.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars and get your pets’ costumes ready for the Annual Paws4You HOWL-O-Ween on October 30 at Pinecrest Gardens… always a fun day. That same night, get ready for another classic event, the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Haunted Mansion Halloween Party, an annual event that took a year off and is back. Proceeds benefit the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s free children’s dental clinic. The cost is $75 per person which includes food and unlimited wine, Prosecco or beer. For non drinkers, admission is $60. Rita Tennyson’s R Catering will provide a delicious menu with BBQ pulled pork, BBQ chicken and blackened fish sliders, mac and cheese, and a spring mixed salad. There will be dancing and lots of prizes, so come in your best costume for a fun filled evening for a great cause. To RSVP, please contact Kayla Blake, kaylablake143@gmail.com.
On the cultural front, Actors’ Playhouse returned in August with a live show, ¡FUÁCATA! or A Latina’s Guide to Surviving the Universe. Starring in this one woman show was three-time Carbonell Award-winning Elena Maria Garcia who had the crowd laughing throughout her 90 minute non-stop performance. That show ran through September 12 and now Actors Executive Director Barbara Stein and Artistic Director David Arisco are preparing for the 2021-2022 season. The first show will be critically acclaimed Middletown, running November 17 – December 12. To reserve, buy tickets or learn about other programs offered, visit www.actorsplayhouse.org
Finally, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables continues to meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. Visiting Rotarians are always welcome. You are asked to RSVP to make your menu selection with Sally via email: sallybsez@yahoo.com. Lunch is $27. This club always has great speakers and most recently welcomed Aura Reinhardt, the Executive Director of the Coral Gables Business Improvement District. Aura shared information on upcoming events and how her office promotes that downtown taxing district. Aura even donated two gift certificates that helped raise funds for the club’s Foundation. Check out Gloria’s Gab LIVE show, when Aura was the guest on September 20th. Gloria’s Gab LIVE airs every Monday morning at 10 a.m. All shows are recorded and available on Facebook and Utube and on our Cnews.net web site.
Sponsorships are available. Those interested should contact gloria@cnews.net.
Until next time, keep making each day count, share an act of kindness every day and stay safe.
