There appears to be light at the end of our endless COVID tunnel and Beaux Arts members kicked it off with their 71st annual Beaux Arts Festival of Art, Miami’s longest-running juried art festival, Jan. 15-16.

After a virtual festival in 2021, folks were happy to gather outside of the University of Miami’s Watsco Center to view and enjoy more than 150 fine art exhibitors and a children’s art tent as well as partake in some great food and live entertainment.

Beaux Arts was the start of a busy holiday weekend with Martin Luther King Day celebrations, picnics and more. In fact, on that Monday, Miami Rotarians and friends met for their annual barbecue at Tropical Park. As always Jay Almeida was among those grilling for the crowd that included club president Noreen Timoney, past president Shirley Pardon, Dianne Landsberg, Cory Gittner, Susan and PDG Robin Shelly, and two visiting Rotarian from the Chicago No. 1 club, Eric and Aleta Williams. Aleta is president-elect of that Chicago club that has some 165 members. She was presented with the Miami club’s flag to bring back to her club.

That same holiday weekend, members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club, following another successful Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger on Jan. 10, participated in a ceramics class at Anhinga Clay Studio in South Miami coordinated by the club’s arts chair, Kim Davison. The women threw their clay pots with expert instructions from Gus who will be firing and having those works of art painted and delivered soon.

Valentine’s Day events are right around the corner.

At the Deering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Ave., you can celebrate love at an outdoor Valentine’s Day concert under the stars. Guests may bring a picnic basket, preorder food or purchase from food trucks on arriving. Bring a blanket, lawn chairs, etc. for a fun evening enjoying the sounds of this year’s featured artist, Keba, with an opening performance by The French Horn Collective.

If you are snuggling up at home on Feb. 14, check out South Florida PBS at 7:30 p.m. for their Valentine’s Concert LIVE. For more info, visit southfloridapbs.org.

As of this writing, it looks like all systems are go for the South Miami Rotary Art Festival, Feb. 25-27, as well as the Rotary Club of Coral Gables Chili Cook-Off on Feb. 27. Look for more on both events in upcoming issues. For now, if you want to enter the competition or sponsor the Chili Cook-Off, visit chilichillin.com or email gloria@cnews.net.

Speaking of outdoor events, Farmer’s Markets around South Florida are everywhere but the South Miami Farmer’s Marker is unique in that it is open year-round every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., located in front of the South Miami Library at 6000 Sunset Dr. You will find lots of free parking and it is ADA accessible.

Finally, join me on Gloria’s Gab LIVE show Mondays, at 10 a.m., where you will be introduced to people making a positive impact on our community. Some of my recent guests on the weekly show included philanthropist Norma Jean Abraham, and a member of the Lebanese Festival Steering Committee, Elias Jader. The two shared information on the Lebanese Festival that was postponed from its January date to Apr. 29-May 1. To view the show, visit
