GMFEA Conference guests take yellow brick road to Oz

Summer is anything by boring in South Florida, especially with our Panthers bringing home the Stanley Cup. While those celebrations continued for days, other events also took the stage.

On June 18, attendees at the Greater Festival & Events Association’s 12th annual Conference and Exhibition were transported to the world of Oz. As participants entered the event at the Milander Center for Arts & Entertainment, a beautifully decorated yellow brink road led them to the main event where festival planners and vendors brought magic with characters, displays and more.

R Catering provided breakfast as well as a Acai Bar later in the morning while GMFEA held a two-hour educational session that included keynote speaker Cindy Lerick, an international event expert who is a Hospitality Management professor at Kansas State University.

Retta Logan of A3 Visual moderated a panel discussion. Panelists included Sig Greenebaum, of Sigfest, who is director of Montreux Jazz Festival, and Alex Durant, founder of Durant Consulting who has raised more than $21 million for her clients among which is the South Beach Food & Wine Festival.

During the event, media personality Lucy Lopez and Jeff Greene emceed and provided fun and games while entertainment producers brought a great show during lunch. Kudos to executive director Debbie Magenheimer and the GMFEA board on any impressive conference. For those in the industry who want to expand your contacts and knowledge of new trends, the GMFEA is a great resource.
