My Psychiatrist partners with SMPD, Rotarians find new home

It is always great to see businesses stepping up and partnering with their community and South Miami’s office of My Psychiatrist did just that recently when the City of South Miami Police Department hosted a community-wide meeting on Sept. 14.

Partnering with My Psychiatrist, South Miami Police Chief Rene Landa and his entire team are to be congratulated for facilitating an important meeting, and for My Psychiatrist, it was a way of showing appreciation for those police officers and community leaders who serve and dedicate their lives in the protection of our neighborhoods and businesses.

In other good news, the Rotary Club of South Miami finally has a new meeting location at the beautiful AC Hotel Dadeland where they are holding in-person lunches on the first and second Tuesday of every month. The fourth Tuesday meeting is an evening mixer.

At the first meeting in this new location, club president Lisa Carson welcomed RI District 6990 past district governor Joe Schumaker who did the honors of presenting certificates to two members of the group of inaugural inductees into the RI District 6990’s Hall of Fame — past club presidents Roy Gonas and Michael Newman. Congratulations to both of these Rotarians who have served our community so well over many years.

Speaking of Rotary, Coral Gables Rotarians are excited about the club’s Halloween-themed Chili Cook Off on Oct. 30. Local businesses, non-profits and individuals looking for a good team-building experience or just a fun-filled day are encouraged to sign up or support the event as a sponsor. Go to chilichillin.com for all the information. Look for an afternoon of fun for kids and adults with live music, bounce house, costume contest, chili tasting and beer from Bay 13.

Lots of great chef teams already are signed up including the Risk Strategies – Donald Trombley, Monster Grass, Woman’s Club of the Village of Historic Overtown, Coral Gables Woman’s Club, and our Miami’s Community Newspapers team.

Speaking of service clubs, the Florida General Federation of Women’s Club’s met for their annual fall board planning conference in Orlando the weekend of Sept. 23. Our South Florida District 11, composed of 12 clubs, were well represented, and led by District 11 director Virginia Yermoli.

Before that trip to Orlando, Yermoli was a guest on my Gloria’s Gab LIVE show. The show offered a great opportunity to review the amazing projects and programs our area clubs have recently produced that have such a positive impact. In fact, from knitting Afghans and sewing bears for Camp Boggy Creek, to cleaning up our neighborhoods, these women work non-stop.

Speaking of which, new member Frances Cabrera who heads the CGWC’s Environment Committee, rounded up a dozen or so club sisters on Sept. 17 to collect garbage around the Gables while Coral Gables Rotary past president Greg Martini collected garbage with club past presidents Yoli Woodbridge and Sally Baumgartner and others as part of the International Coastal Clean-up Day.

Until next time, keep making each day count and share an act of kindness every day.
