As October closes and November kicks off, there are so many great events on the horizon.

The Miami Association of Fundraising Professional’s 35th Annual National Philanthropy Day Anniversary Awards Luncheon seems to sell out every year, attracting grant makers, financial firms, and charitable organizations who gather to honor outstanding individuals making a positive impact on our community. This year’s luncheon, to be held at the Hilton Miami Downtown, 1601 Biscayne Blvd. Registration will begin at 11:30 a., and the lunch and awards program will begin promptly at noon.   The National Philanthropy Day Committee includes its President Jaime Bayo, MPA CFRE; President-Elect / Mentorship Chair Melissa Wetzel, CFRE in partnership with Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, The Miami Foundation and Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Miami-Dade. Saturday, October 29, is a big day for many to enjoy some fun filled events. Such as the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Annual Halloween party at their historic clubhouse at 1009 East Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables. Seriously, this is the best party in town for adults only (21 years and up). Event Chair Rita Tennyson with Barbara Lapsley ask guests to don their favorite costumes to compete for prizes while dancing to the music of celebrity DJ Germain and enjoying an open bar and great food. Tickets are $100per person with proceeds benefiting the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s free children’s dental clinic that provides more than $200,000 in free dental care annually for children who fall between the cracks in our healthcare system. Look for these same members October 30, at the Rotary Club of Coral Gables Chili Cook-Off and event they have participated in every year at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables. By the way, Chili Cook Off Event Chair and Rotary Club of Coral Gables’ President Elect Frank Sexton invites all to attend promising fun for all ages with a bounce house for kids, costume contests, live music, great chili, beer from Bay 13 Brewery & Restaurant and lots of other food options. For information on how to register to cook or to attend, visit chilichillin.com.

During the day of October 29, Paws4You will hold its Annual Howl-O-Ween at Pinecrest Gardens with a variety of fun activities for Pets and owners with an amazing costume contest in the Banyan Bowl area as well as tricks and treats, a Doggie Fun Zone Agility course, food, drinks, live entertainment, a spooky Kids’ Zone and pumpkin patch. Tickets are $10 per person in advance and $12 per person at the gate. Children under 2 years are free.

Of course, Doral had its own version of “Howl-O-Ween” on October 15, when pet owners gathered for a fun night at our Trails & Tales Park, a doggie park on 116th and NW 50th St.

The costume contest provided lots of laughs for all. (Hope to get photos over the weekend.)

Doral continues to offer residents and business owners a rich environment that makes it a perfect place work, live, work and play. In fact, on October 12th, Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and the City Council inaugurated the City’s first Cultural Arts Center. A ribbon cutting was held with an unveiling of the plaque ceremony to commemorate this great milestone. Among those on hand celebrating with the community were representatives from project contractor, KVC Constructors, Inc.; architect, Bermello Ajamil & Partners; and Codina Partners. Kudos to all.

Finally, Florida Grand Opera, whose headquarters are located in Doral, have a new production opera lovers will want to attend. El matrimonio secreto, directed by Miami resident Elena Araoz and conducted by Argentinian conductor and composer Darwin Aquino, is based on the 1766 play The Clandestine Marriage by George Colman the Elder and David Garrick and has an updated plot with hilarious twists and turns all should enjoy.

The opera runs November 12-15, 2022, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets begin at $18 and are available at fgo.org or by calling the ticket office at 800.741.101.

Until next time, keep making each day count and share an act of kindness every day.
