The General Federation of Women’s Clubs in District 11 has 12 clubs including those as far north as El Portal and south to Key West. In fact, a group of club women from various clubs are even planning an overnight trip in December to visit the Key West Club and attend their Holiday Bazaar. In another show of support for sister clubs, several area clubs joined the Hialeah Woman’s Club for their 100th Anniversary luncheon and installation at the historic Hialeah Race Track. Clubs from all over the county attended the affair including the Woman’s Clubs of Coral Gables, Miami, El Portal, CocoPlum and Miami Springs. In addition, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, who is currently fulfilling his 10th term in the U.S. House of Representatives and represents Hialeah, attended the celebration congratulating Club President Barbara Hassall and all the club members on this milestone. Among the many club presidents on hand to echo the Congressman’s sentiments were Ruth Martinez of Coral Gables; Carol Nobles of CocoPlum; Maribel Trujillo-Fruitstone of El Portal; Shirley Pardon of Miami; and Jaunita Palazzolo of Miami Springs.
Days later, on August 31, CocoPlum Woman’s Club held their Annual High Tea, also supported by several area clubs. Lots of great hats with a parade, a fun raffle, husbands acting as waiters and dancing all made for a fun afternoon helping the club raise money for its historic clubhouse. More on that next time.
When organizations join together for projects and events everybody wins, especially our South Florida community. Recently, the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) and the Rotary Club of Coral Gables (RCCG) joined forces to raise funds for their respective charities with their first monthly Game Night hosted by Bay 13 in Coral Gables. Clutch Burger owner, Steven Bradley, who emceed this first event, has agreed to continue volunteering his time and talent much like he does for CGWC’s monthly Gringo Bingo as this becomes a monthly event. Look for this event on the 4th Thursday of each month. Thanks to SouthState Bank and Eli Jimenez, this pilot Game Night on August 23 raised more than $1,300 for the charities.
Speaking of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Gringo Bingo, the September 6th event at Clutch Burger was a great success with proceeds being shared with the National Areata Alopecia Foundation (NAAF). Dierdre Nero was a guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE on August 17 to discuss NAAF and the upcoming Gringo Bingo for which her Nero Immigration Law Firm was one of the sponsors along with attorney Jerome Kavulich. Since this fun bingo party started in 2019, CGWC has worked with immigration attorney Dierdre Nero every fall to support her efforts in raising awareness and funds for NAAF. In fact, she held a second fundraiser that following Saturday at Marlins Park for NAAF.
Steven Bradley who always emcees Gringo Bingo while celebrity DJ Germain provides music always makes this event a party. Next month’s party at Clutch Burger will be Tuesday, October 11, with proceeds being shared with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Tickets are $30 per person and include 12 games and a big coverall with great prizes and lots of fun. To RSVP email gloria@cnews.net. In other club news, Coral Gables Woman’s Club busy summer, aside from their monthly Gringo Bingos, they held a board retreat on August 13, at the Intercontinental Doral, followed by a belly dancing class on August 17th as a mini fundraiser.
Finally, look for some great new programs on South Florida PBS coming up this month. SFLPBS Sr. Marketing director Jeneissy Azcuy was a guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to review shows including a Ken Burns and Lynn Novick program on the Holocaust and America.
