On Sunday, March 3, there will be bargains galore at Pinecrest Garden Club’s primary fundraiser, a White Elephant Sale. The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., in the Hibiscus Room at Pinecrest Gardens, near the historic garden’s entrance. While shoppers may not find white elephants, there will be numerous other items for sale at the Pinecrest Garden Club’s White Elephant Sale, their primary fundraiser of the year. Chairing the event is Cynthia Baldinger whose helpers include the Co-Presidents of the Pinecrest Garden Club, Christian Armstrong and Cecilia Prahl; along club members Gina Guilford, Eilene Hurber, and Anne Joffre Evans.
Among the member-donated items available for sale will be books, garden-related items, home décor, artwork, designer handbags, collectibles, toys, tools and more. Admission is free and proceeds benefit the club’s many activities and community donations.
The Pinecrest Garden Cub is a non-profit group that is a member of the National Garden Club and the Florida Federation of Gardens Club. There are approximately 80 members who meet monthly, either at Pinecrest Gardens or on field trips around the South Florida area.
Previous money raised by the Pinecrest Garden Club has helped fund vegetable gardens for children in local schools and contributed to a new Sensory and Learning Garden at Pinecrest Gardens.

Several Pinecrest residents were seen enjoying the Coral Gables Woman’s Club Gala on February 9. From a floor show and jazz band to a DJ with dancing, a silent auction, an open bar and dinner, the spectacular masked ball had it all. Iris Segui chaired the event with Mayra Dominguez in charge of the auction that featured some amazing items. The funds raised will help provide some 600 Miami-Dade County children in need with free dental services in the coming year. Among the almost 200 people attending the affair were Fred and Sophie Baddour, Kim and Tom Davison, Theresa Gilmore, Hank Langston, Richard and Carla Naser, Greg Martini, Terry and Charles Gomes, Manny and Briana Varas, Marti Bueso, and Cindi Ruiz, to mention a few.
On the cultural front, South Miami Rotarians will present their annual art festival the weekend of February 23 and 24. A few weeks ago a group of those club members gathered to paint Sunset Drive in preparation for the event that occupies Sunset Dr. between S. Dixie Hwy. and Red Road. This is a great family affair with great art, shopping, food and entertainment.
That same weekend, on Sunday February 24, from 1-5 p.m., Coral Gables Rotarians will host their annual Chili Cook Off in at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park… yet another great family affair to benefit the many charitable programs supported by the Rotary Foundation of Coral Gables as well as their scholarship fund.
