Members enjoyed an Oktoberfest menu of bratwurst or veggie sausage, sides and drinks with some arriving early to enjoy some Bavarian beer as well.

Speaking of Rotary District 6990, save Saturday, November 18, for the district’s Family Picnic at Tropical Park from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Rotarians and guests are urged to come hungry and ready to enjoy a selection of delightful dishes and a variety of beverages to quench your thirst. Look for games as well as a chili cook off that day.

This promises to be an over-the-top affair you will not want to miss with a retrospective presentation, silent auction, music, an open bar and chance to meet old friends and community leaders. Voices for Children’s (VFC) Superheroes Luncheon was inspired and hilarious. More importantly, the affair raised funds to carry out its mission of serving as a safety net for Miami-Dade’s 1,600 children in foster care. This 27th Annual Be A Voice Luncheon with support from the presenting sponsor, Stearns Weaver Miller, attracted a record crowd and raised more than $230,000 to fund the gap in state funding for the Guardian ad Litem program in addition to VFC’s programmatic initiatives. Voices for Children’s CEO Katie Black and her amazing staff and volunteers pulled off a wonderfully fun affair with so many guests getting into the spirit with their superhero attire. Of course, buying a $100 raffle ticket also came with your own cape. Word has it, next year everyone will want to get in on the fun. Guests came early to enjoy live music, bites and an open bar and, of course, pose with their costumes and capes. Laurie Jennings emceed the program with many notables in attendance including Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, former Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner, Berta Blecke, and VFC Chair Kira Grossman. Finally, many are asking how we can help the people of Israel during this troubling time. One great way to do that locally is to go online to https://www.chabadofkendall.org/ Donations made through that website will help with humanitarian efforts of Chabad centers in Israel that serve a variety of shelters and crisis centers.

Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings, be kind and make a difference.
