February was packed with outdoor activities and foodie events. From Miami Beach to South Dade, it has been nonstop. EATZ, a creative food collaboration between celebrity Chef Chris Valdes and the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, attracted many hundreds of influencers and foodies to the hotel on February 21st. Guests dined under the stars savoring delicious food, drinks, and music with emcee Carlos Hernandez adding to the festive night. Aside from Chef Chris and Loews, additional partners included were Florida Dairy Farmers, Arely Ruiz PR, R Catering, Bacardi, Justin Wines, Café La Llave, and Prosecco Paradise.
Speaking of food events, on February 26, Lobster Fest for the Woody Foundation was held at Coral Reef Yacht Club. This annual charity event attracted a great crowd. More on that next time.
The weekend of February 17th included the Coconut Grove Art Festival that was hampered on Sunday with severe weather. Despite that, some artists say they sold more on that day than others. Meantime, the covered patio Coral Gables Arts Cinema (CGAC) that stormy Sunday provided enough protection for the Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) fundraiser event that began with an outside reception followed by a French movie, “A Taste of Things.”
CGAC is a gem in our community that offers great movies and a wonderful venue for corporate and fundraising events. CGWC’s reception and movie at the Cinema was coordinated by Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s fundraising chair, Rita Tennyson, owner of R Catering. That affair exposed many to the Cinema, hopefully attracting new members.
Membership offers many benefits and, if you are an avid moviegoer, it is an especially great deal. Kudos to Marlin Ebbert, Chair of the Coral Gables Arts Cinema, for recommending the event and helping the club coordinate this charity fundraiser. Among some of those helping that day were Seasha and Corey Tennyson, Carmen Suarez, and Nancy Desmangles.
South Miami Rotary Club’s SoMi Art Festival got perfect weather on the weekend of February 24-25. This popular “free” event is produced by a dedicated group of Rotarians with ongoing support from the 1st National Bank of South Miami. This year, receiving additional support from the City of South Miami, they were able to add a second stage in Sunset near US 1 that certainly added to the festivities. Proceeds from the event help the club provide scholarships and donate to other charitable outreach efforts. Last year’s event raised approximately $60,000. One of the many event co-chairs, Laurie Kahn, was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE. The Rotary Club of Coral Gables continues to attract great guest speakers to its weekly Thursday club lunch meetings held at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. Most recently, guest speakers included Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Zoo Miami’s Ron Magill. Program Chair, Felix Pardo, does an outstanding job of inviting speakers who are both educational and entertaining, which adds so much to any Rotary meeting. During his talk, Ron reminded folks about the March 1st Feast with the Beast, a unique gala that was worth the price of admission with some of South Florida’s best chefs and amazing entertainment.
Finally, happy birthday to RCCG Treasurer Bill Quesenberry who celebrated his 75th year at his home with wife, Chie, friends and so many fellow choir members at their Pinecrest home on February 18.
Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
