This holiday season finds lots of great holiday parties in and around the Gables and Pinecrest. Scott and Belinda Sime’s holiday toy drive has to be the biggest and best of all.
More that 340 guests attended this lavish affair held at the Sime’s waterfront home on December 14, 2024. More than 960 toys were donated that night filling the couple’s dining room with little room to walk. Despite the sporadic rain that made setting up a challenge, Belinda and Scott made sure everyone, many of whom came in ugly sweater, had a great time socializing, dancing and enjoying the beautiful setting. R Catering and Crepe Maker made sure everyone was well fed and two bars made sure everyone was served and DJ Germain brought the crowd to the dance floor. Among the many faces seen enjoying the night with this writer were old friends and toy donors Barbara Lapsley, Carol Horkowitz, John and Pam Admire, Bob and Cindy Trescott, Tom and Kim Davison, Carmen Suarez, Dr, Iris Torres Rivera and Ralph Rivera, Dr. Joe Briggle, Cathy Briggle, Jerry Kavulich and hundreds more.
Yet another great holiday party was held in Pinecrest that same evening hosted by CRB CEO Fred Baddour and wife, Sophie. The couple’s home provided yet another amazing setting for a holiday party. CRB employees, family and other friends enjoyed enormous amounts great food from sushi to Churrasco and desserts to kill anyone’s diet. For those who remember the creation of the Pinecrest Community Foundation, it was CRB Geological and former Rotarian Fred Baddour who donated office space for the foundation when I was Executive Director needed a home for the non profit.
The Villagers Home Tour took everyone from St. Sophia’s by bus to historic homes and places in the Shenandoah area; CGWC’s Gringo Bingo shifted to Birdie Bistro with a packed house; and the Jingle Bells Run was a great success making over $52,000 with lots of fun costumes, laughter and Santa to boot. The Merrick House was decorated for the season by the Coral Gables Garden Club and held a wonderful party on the lawn with music, crafts and vendors followed by the Junior Orange Bowl’s fabulous parade that offered a VIP reception for grandstand ticket holders that featured a band from Nashville and lots of photos ops and great food by R Catering. The month has been nonstop with parties and celebrations much too many to count.
Next up, in 2025 Voices For Children’s Be a Voice Gala promises to be another incredible affair to be held at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, on January 18, 2025. This year’s event, themed “Fostering Hope,” will celebrate our 40th anniversary and celebrate the impact they have made on the lives of children and youth in foster care. Voices For Children CEO Kadie Black advises that tickets for this “over the top” affair are almost sold out. For information and tickets, visit www.beavoice.org.
Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
