Summer calendar offer cultural mix of events

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

As summer is almost over, residents and visitors will find South Floria’s cultural scene has some exciting options. At Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, you will want to see Hundred Days, a compelling true story about embracing uncertainty and taking on life as if you had only 100 days to live. This is a thrilling must see production that has received rave reviews and promises to delight and take your breath away. The New York Times Critic’s Pick describes Hundred Days as a “luminous musical memoir.” The show runs through August 4, so reserve now at www.actorsplayhouse.org for this limited tun show.

Coming up next, the Miami Shoe Museum (MSM) will launch in August, adding to Miami’s ever growing cultural landscape. MSM’s founder, Luis Valenzuela, is at the heart of the museum and other exciting programs. As a certified teaching artist, visual artist and fashion designer, Luis Valenzuela was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab Live Show to give us a preview of his amazing collection of shoes dating back centuries. Born in Venezuela where he taught art for years, Luis has been involved in and has created amazing projects including most recently The Creators Lab in Wynwood, an innovative research center for art, design and technology. The Orange Bowl Classic (OBC) is coming into a new era with a historic match up this 2024 football season opener on September 1. For the first time, the OBC has two teams coming from outside Florida—#3 North Carolina Central and #6 Alabama State. This top-10 matchup at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens signifies a new era for the OBC, setting the stage for a potential preview of the Celebration Bowl, highlighting a championship-level competition between the SWAC and MEAC.

The Junior Orange Bowl is also ramping up for the start of the season and recently held a mixer at John Martins on Miracle Mile on July 18. This summer mixer provided event chairs a chance to share their plans. Look for more on this and other JOB activities in upcoming issues.

Speaking of mixers, the Coral Gables Bar held its monthly mixer at Agave y Maiz, the beautiful new Mexican restaurant on Miracle Mile and LeJeune Rd. More than 90 guests gathered on the lush rooftop bar to network with members, judges and other civic leaders for a lovely but rather warm evening. Among the many enjoying the affair were CGBA President Alberto Manrara, Treasurer Vanessa Machaud, Esq., Judge Robert Watson, CGBA Past President Bruce Bounds, Cristy Garcia, attorney Jerry Kavulich and attorney Dennis Campbell. Next big event coming up for this group is its Annual Gala to be held September 7, at the Loews Hotel Coral Gables. For more information on the mixers, CLE events and/ or the gala visit www.coralgablesbar.org.

Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
