Time to get out of the house and enjoy fall events

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

September has ushered in a basket full of great activities for everyone. October 29 is a big day for many to enjoy some fun filled events. During the day Paws4You will hold its Annual Howl-O-Ween at Pinecrest Gardens with a variety of fun activities for pets and owners while that same evening including an amazing costume contest in the Banyan Bowl area as well as tricks and treats, a Doggie Fun Zone Agility course, food, drinks, live entertainment, a spooky Kids’ Zone and pumpkin patch. Tickets are $10 per person in advance and $12 per person at the gate. Children under 2 years are free.

That same evening of Saturday, October 29, for the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Annual Halloween party… seriously the best party in town. Guests will don their favorite costumes to compete for prizes while dancing to the music of celebrity DJ Germain with an open bar and great food. Tickets are $100 with proceeds benefiting the club’s free children’s dental clinic. More on that next time. Look for these same members October 30, at the Rotary Club of Coral Gables Chili Cook-Off, an event they have participated in every year at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables. For information on how to register to cook or to attend, visit chilichillin.com.

Gables Rotarians and Coral Gables Woman’s Club, many of whose members live in the Pinecrest area, held a joint game night fundraiser hosted by Bay 13 the end of August and then on September 27 sponsored by SouthState Bank. Coming up next, CGWC’s monthly Gringo Bingo will be held October 11, 7 – 9 p.m., at Clutch Burger to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. These club members are also busy preparing for the club’s 100th Anniversary in 2023 while doing many other outreach efforts such as a neighborhood cleanup on September 17, led by the club’s Environment Chair Frances Cabrera.

It is great to see nonprofits partnering their resources to raise funds in their efforts to make a positive impact on our communities. At the Coral Gables Woman’s Club first meeting of the club year, a collection of gently used tennis shoes began as that club and the Hialeah Woman’s Club are working with Westland Mall to recycle these shoes that have plastic and cannot be put in recycle bins. The shoes will be resoled and sent to third world countries whose people can sell the shoes as a way of making a living. Shoes may be dropped off at Community Newspapers 6796 SW 62 Avenue, South Miami, through October 4.

Coming up soon, on October 4th, Community Newspapers is delighted to have South Florida PBS CEO Dolores Sukhdeo as a featured speaker for its Cafecito at Casacuba in South Miami. South Florida PBS (SFLPBS) stations (WPBT and WXEL) have some amazing programs that started this month including The U.S, and The Holocaust. SFLPBS Marketing and Communications Director Jeneissy Azcuy was a recent guest on Gloria Gab LIVE to discuss all the wonderful programming coming up this fall. Another event on the horizon is A Safe Haven for Newborns Annual Gala on October 22, to be held at the Hilton Downtown Miami. Last year’s ASHFN gala attracted more than 350 supporters celebrating the lives of more than 360 precious newborns. This year’s event increases that number of babies saved from abandonment and possible death to 365 and counting. In the case of this organization, it is not just the babies that are saved but ASHFN also gives support and life changing help to all those mothers. Founder and CEO, Nick Silverio, who works 24/7 with no salary, inspires his one person staff and countless amazing Ambassadors to help support the organization with multiple fundraising events including the annual Gala, 5 K Run/Walk and a Golf Tournament. Nick was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE. To view that show, visit https://www.facebook.com/Communitynewspapers/videos/450977480329492/ or on

Until next time, keep making each day count and share an act of kindness every day.
