Theatre goers are going to love the upcoming season of Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. On Oct. 29 more than 125 supporters gathered to celebrate the 36th season with a fundraiser/ launch party at The Watermark at Coral Gables.
Executive producing director Barbara S. Stein, founding chair Dr. Lawrence E. Stein and artistic director David Arisco were on hand to welcome guests to this preview and to thank longtime dedicated donors and season ticket holders who have been instrumental in the growth and success of Actors’ Playhouse over the years.
This was an extraordinary evening made possible by the generosity of their hosts at The Watermark at Coral Gables, along with the support of Bacardi and Vicky Bakery.
Guests enjoyed special appearances from the cast of Sweet Goats & Blueberry Señoritas, which opened Nov. 10; esteemed playwrights Richard Blanco and Vanessa Garcia, and captivating performances by Marcos del Risco, JL Rey, Gabrielle Graham, and Becca Andrews. The new season also includes an incredible musical, Legally Blond, whose star’s audition video viewed that night was such fun. Theatre lovers will want to get in line to buy their season tickets now at actorsplayhouse.org.
Yet another fun-filled fundraiser generously hosted by The Watermark was a Halloween mixer for the Coral Gables Woman’s Club on Oct. 27. Live music, great food and crazy ghoulish drinks by R Catering, made for a festive night.
Among the many attending the affair were Carol Horkowitz, Arely Ruiz, Rita and Saesha Tennyson, Vivian Laboy, Sam Martinez, Meredeth and John McKissick, Carmen Suarez, Barbara Lapsley, Linda Hartwell, Ruthe Martinez, Jackie De Fancisco, Kristina Jackson, Aileen Ortega, Dr. Iris Torres, Yaisy Tom Davison, Ana Lam, Julie Irvin and Kim Davison.
On Nov. 2, the philanthropic community gathered for the Association of Fundraising Professionals annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon at Jungle Island. More than 400 guests enjoyed socializing with fellow donors and non-profit professionals while also honoring some incredible individuals and organizations including David Lawrence, Marile and Jorge Lopez Esq. Family Foundation, Ron Book, Elizabeth “Liebe” Gadinsky, Bilzen Sumberg, The Federick A. Deluca Foundation, and Julie and Charlotte Krass.
I was honored to interview on Gloria’s Gab LIVE, Marile and Jorge Lopez, which may be found at Cnews.net. Among the many table honorees was the president of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club, Ruth Martinez, whose club is in the mist of planning its Roaring Twenties Centennial Gala on Dec. 2.
Yet another huge non-profit event, the Annual Safe Haven for Newborns Gala, was held on Oct. 28 at the Intercontinental Miami. Another huge crowd of supporters enjoyed a silent auction, food, drinks, as well as an inspiring program.
Nick Silverio, the organization founder and CEO, works 24/7 at no pay and has since its creation. To date ASHFN has saved from abandonment and possible death, 382 babies. It is no wonder people love this man and support the non-profit work that impacts women and babies throughout the state and beyond. Look for more on this event soon.
Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings and not your challenges, and make a difference.
