While the City of Doral is celebrating its 20th anniversary, there are many more celebrations going on weeks leading up to summertime fun. Doral’s own Jodi Steinbauer , a UM Sports Hall of Fame inductee in 1993 and Jr. Orange Bowl Tennis Tournament Director for the last 26 years, celebrated her retirement as the JOB tennis tournament director with a party on June 3, 2023, at Doral Park Country Club. Among the many on hand for the event were several family members including husband, J.R. Steinbauer; father-in-law, John Steinbauer; and daughter Erica. Also, enjoying the evening with this writer were Miami Dade County Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez with wife, Vivian; Jr. Orange Bowl President, Lisa Albizu-Vazquez; JOB Past President, Chuck Little, with his wife Nancy; JOB Past President Samantha Jones; Connie Milone with lots of JOB members and friends. During the evening, many photos were shared including several from Jodi and JR’s recent Alaskan cruise.

A Safe Haven for Newborns’ Annual Golf Tournament was held May 19, at Trump National Resort, and it was one for the books. Thunderstorms and rain delayed play for a few hours but everyone got in 9 holes or more. Food trucks, open bar and a BBQ awards dinner completed the day with a raffle and auction for some great sports memorabilia. Kudos to event chair Chelsea Oakley, who took over day of management from Gina Perez and beautifully handled all the challenges of that rainy day. ASHFN Founder and CEO Nick Silverio was delighted to have so many volunteers and long time supporters. The event netted $31,000.00 for the organization that has saved to date 371 babies from abandonment and possible death since its founding. Coming up next for ASHFN is the annual gala set of October 28, 2023. Save the date! Visit https://asafehavenfornewborns.com/

Produced with Purpose held its Young Entrepreneurs Showcase hosted by International Mall in Doral. This Mall, under the leadership of General Manager Maria Prado seems to be having a renaissance with lots of new store openings. Bringing events such as this one certainly demonstrates the Mall’s support for young people and other charitable causes in our community. On May 2, 2023, one hundred amazing young people lined the mall corridor setting up tables to display and sell their products from food and clothing to art and more. Produced With Purpose vision was born from a young 10-year old’s vision. That child, Leila Hilliard, decided that she wanted to start a business and over the years her desire to showcase her interests to the public to begin a successful business led to the creation of this non-profit that encourages, trains and showcases young budding entrepreneurs.

Finally, Doral’s own Steven Bradley, and this writer orchestrated yet another Gringo Bingo fundraiser at Steven’s Clutch Burger Restaurant on Tuesday, June 6 and July 11, raising for the Coral Gables Woman’s Club many charitable outreach efforts.

Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings, not your challenges and make a difference.
