Seasons of Thankfulness

Serving as your mayor for the past year has been an honor and a privilege. As the end of 2022 draws near, and I reflect on the year gone by, a quote by Helen Keller comes to mind: “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” To me, these words embody the spirit of West Park.

As we enter the month of November and anticipate the season of thankfulness, let’s reflect on what great blessings we have in our community. No success is without hardship along the way and we have not been free of any difficulties. However, in the midst of the most difficult years in our history and all that this year has brought as challenges, we have worked together to find our way through.

The heart of West Park continues to beat loudly through the everyday actions of our citizens. Thanksgiving has become a season of giving and caring for one another over the course of American history. It is my hope to see that we carry the spirit of Thanksgiving throughout our year in our community and that we always seek to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors — that we extend a helping hand where we can and seek out the things to be thankful for. In addition to giving thanks, it is my hope that we will all resolve to do our part to make our cities, county, state, and nation better places for our generation and generations to come: It takes all of us.

Thanksgiving is about gratitude. It’s about being thankful for the blessings of the past year and having hopeful expectations for the coming year.

As we get into the holiday season, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone in our community for the support, respect, and understanding during this past year. Your unwavering support, sacrifice, and commitment have made our community stronger and demonstrated how resilient West Park residents are.

To the backbone of our City – our first responders, City employees, and Commission – thank you for going above and beyond to meet the needs of our community. Your prompt service, courage, and sacrifice doesn’t go unnoticed. Your passion for this City continues to make us the ‘City of Positive Progression’.

Special Holiday Greetings to All!
As we continue to be thankful in December, let us reflect upon and find strength in the joy, hope and renewal of the season.

I send greetings to all those in West Park celebrating Hanukkah, the festival of lights. As West Park families and friends share in the joyous traditions of Hanukkah, we recognize the power of faith to accomplish miracles and bring light from the darkness. May the joy of Hanukkah and the peace and goodwill of the season fill our hearts and inspire us to lead lives of compassion. Wishing all residents of West Park- Happy Hanukkah!

I send greetings to those in West Park observing Kwanzaa! During this joyous time of year, residents renew their commitment to hope, understanding, and the great promise of our City. In honoring the traditions of Africa, Kwanzaa strengthens the ties that bind individuals in West Park, our country, and around the world. Wishing all residents of West Park, Happy Kwanzaa!

I send greetings to those West Park observing Christmas! We may have faced disappointments and difficult times this past year—as individuals, as families, and as a City. The beauty of Christmas helps us find a calm and inner peace and bring to life the words, “Silent Night, Holy Night, all is calm, all is bright.” Christmas instills warmth in the hearts of people throughout West Park!

The miracles we celebrate during this holiday season remind us that we can overcome the greatest tests with hope, faith, and each other. Hanukkah reminds us that there is light in the darkness, that we have and will face hard things and remain steadfast; Christmas reminds us that long held promises are realized, and hope – light – is with us in the world; and Kwanzaa remind us that unity is key to our resilience, particularly in the most difficult of times.

Residents of West Park, you continue to make me proud to be your Mayor and I am sincerely honored to continue to serve you. As we look ahead to the New Year, we look forward not only as individuals, but collectively, as members of this wonderful community. Together, we have accomplished much, and still have much more to do. As I look ahead to 2023, I am very optimistic.

I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your families the very best this holiday season and the very best in the New Year. We are and will continue to be #ONEWESTPARK!.
