Mindful Art Education Showcases Children’s Art, Highlights Mindfulness Activities For All Ages

Mindful Art Education, in collaboration with Easterseals South Florida and The Children’s Trust, hosted a memorable Art Exhibition and Mindfulness event for parents and students on July 26, 2024. This unique event, held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the students’ classrooms and school cafeteria, allowed parents to experience their children’s summer camp activities, enhance emotional well-being, and promote physical health.

The event featured a vibrant display of student artwork and showcased the impressive creativity developed over the course of the Summer Camp. Parents and guardians had the opportunity to admire the artistic expressions of their children. Mindfulness Coach Alexandra Jeanty-Leclerc and Summer Camp Coordinators Amara Condon and Georgina Anezelloti held interactive physical activity sessions that integrated artistic expression with physical activity to promote physical fitness.

The event also highlighted guided mindfulness meditation, which students practiced this summer to help develop focus, enhance emotional resilience, and reduce stress. These meditations were designed to improve concentration and emotional regulation. In addition to the 85 students enrolled in the Summer Camp, all parents, teachers, and coordinators participated in the yoga and mindfulness meditation sessions.

The event highlighted the advantages of the summer camp, which serves children aged five to 21. The camp offered significant benefits for the students, including improved concen

tration and mindfulness, enhanced self-expression and creativity, increased physical fitness and flexibility, and better emotional regulation and stress reduction.

Parents and guardians who attended the event expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting the positive impact on their children’s emotional and physical well-being. The event provided an excellent opportunity for parents to connect with their children and the school community in a supportive and enriching environment.

Ms. Jeanty-Leclerc thanked event sponsors, parents, and camp attendees for making the event a resounding success.

“With heartfelt gratitude, we extend our sincere thanks to our generous sponsors for their support in making the mindfulness summer camp a reality,” said Ms. Leclerc. “Your contributions have provided opportunities for growth for our participants, empowering them to cultivate resilience and inner calm. Thank you for investing in a brighter, more mindful future.”

The summer camp is part of Ms. Jeanty-Leclerc’s work to promote mindfulness in educational activities, including programming and extracurricular work. All children were gifted a book from Easterseals entitled “Mindful Pokie,” written by Ms. Jeanty-Leclerc to help kids better learn and understand mindfulness meditation, as well as how to practice it while having fun. The book has fun exercises for children and parents, including affirmations, “Lion’s Breath” exercises, and a beach clean-up party with the main character, Pokie. In addition, the book discusses decorating the love museum in Little Haití, where Pokie lives as a DJ and teaches children to be stewards to protect our planet.

The camp also taught attendees the Latin expression, homo sum: humani nil a me alienum puto, which means, “I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me.” These encouraging words accompanied all camp attendees throughout the whole summer as they showed courage, enthusiasm, and a deep interest in being their personal best.

Earlier this year, Ms. Jeanty-Leclerc held an MAE Autism Awareness Fundraiser Event at Villa Paula in Little Haiti, which was developed to foster understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity. The event highlighted the importance of autism awareness and advocacy, providing a platform for individuals and organizations to come together in support of the autism community.
