STATE REP. ALEX RIZO FILES TO RUN FOR FLORIDA SENATE DISTRICT 39

State Representative Alex Rizo, Republican from Hialeah, today announced that he has filed to run for Florida Senate District 39 following former State Senator Bryan Avila’s resignation to run as Byron Donalds’ Republican Party running mate for Lieutenant Governor.
Representative Rizo, a longtime educator, small-business owner, and former chairman of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County, is the lone candidate who has represented most of the communities within Senate District 39 during his service in the Florida House.
Rizo released the following statement:
“I am running for the Florida Senate because this community has always been my home. I know the people, families, and small businesses that make it an example of the American dream. I have had the privilege of representing Miami Lakes, most of Hialeah, Virginia Gardens, Miami Springs, and parts of unincorporated Miami-Dade while in the Florida House. I have worked closely with Governor DeSantis through the years, and now I am ready to continue fighting in the Senate for the conservative values and common-sense policies. at have made the ‘Free State of Florida’ the very best in America.”
Rizo added, “Bryan Avila has dedicated his life to serving our community, our state, and our country. I am grateful for his friendship, his leadership, and his sacrifice, and I am proud to see him take that commitment to service statewide alongside our next governor, Byron Donalds.
Representative Rizo previously served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County from 2022 to 2024, helping President Donald Trump become the first Republican Presidential nominee to win Miami-Dade in 36 years.
Rizo concluded, “My intention is to run for Senate District 39. Upon Governor DeSantis’ call for a Special Election, and once the election schedule is established, I will take the necessary steps to formally enter the race. In the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing my conservative record with the voters, demonstrating strong community support, and raising the necessary funds to win this Special Election.”
In the Florida House, Representative Rizo has championed parental rights, historic school choice expansion, lower taxes, increased funding for public schools and teacher pay, workforce and technical education, public safety, protection of religious liberty, and efforts to educate future generations about the horrors and failures of communism.
Alex Rizo is a father of two sons and a graduate of Hialeah High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University.
