The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has issued updated guidance directing the resumption of driver license and state ID processing for eligible Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries, following recent federal court rulings that extended TPS for nationals of Honduras, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
Individuals from Honduras and Nicaragua with valid TPS documentation are eligible for services through November 18, 2025. These actions ensure Florida’s compliance with federal law and allow qualifying individuals to obtain state-issued identification in accordance with applicable administrative orders.
For Venezuelan nationals, the United States Supreme Court has ordered that, pending resolution of ongoing litigation, beneficiaries who received certain TPS-related documentation on or before February 5, 2025, will maintain TPS and their documentation will remain valid. Until the litigation is complete, these TPS customers are entitled to the issuance of a driver license or identification card until October 2, 2026. Residents must present all required documentation to verify eligibility at the time of service.
The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office is actively assisting individuals who present valid TPS documentation, in full compliance with the official directive.
“This week’s court rulings are an important update for many residents in our community,” said Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “Our message is simple: if your documents are in order, we will follow all state and federal laws and provide the services permitted under the applicable administrative orders,” added Fernandez.
Residents are encouraged to visit the official website of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for the latest updates on TPS eligibility and documentation requirements.
