At the School Board Meeting on August 12, 2025, School Board Member Danny Espino, District 5, proffered agenda item H-3, requesting that the Superintendent, in light of the current circumstances and recent events, ensure that the District upholds all state-mandated requirements to educate our students, where aligned with the curriculum, on addressing antisemitism, hate, and genocide, including the continued use of the Anti-Defamation League’s educational materials on antisemitism and Holocaust education.
On July 6, 2025, the National Education Association (NEA) recommended that educators discontinue the use of Anti-Defamation League (ADL) materials, citing concerns over the organization’s stance on Israel and Palestine. The ADL, however, has long played a vital role in combating hate and antisemitism through initiatives such as No Place for Hate and Echoes & Reflections. These programs foster empathy, critical thinking, and historical understanding—core values that align closely with the District’s educational mission. As antisemitism continues to rise, it is essential that educators have access to accurate, balanced resources.
“With antisemitism on the rise, it’s critical that our schools continue using trusted, state-aligned resources to teach students about hate, genocide, and the Holocaust. The ADL’s materials support these lessons and reflect our values of inclusion, empathy, and historical truth,” said Board Member Danny Espino.
This item requests that the Superintendent ensure all state-mandated instruction on antisemitism, hate, and genocide continues, affirming Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ support for the ADL and its educational resources.
