‘Panther Parkway’ renaming honors Perrine Elementary

County and municipal elected officials co-designated a portion of SW 168th Street in front of Perrine Elementary Expressive Arts School as “Panther Parkway,” in recognition of the school’s mascot, during ceremonies on Thursday, May 27.

Students and staff at the school received a round of applause from Miami-Dade Commissioner Katy Sorenson, Village of Palmetto Bay Vice Mayor Brian Pariser, Councilmember Shelley Stanczyk and Councilmember Howard J. Tendrich. Perrine Elementary, an A-rated school, recently was recognized as a “Magnet School of Distinction” by the national organization Magnet Schools of America. It was one of only 76 schools nationwide to receive the honor this year.

“The students and faculty at Perrine Elementary have demonstrated a remarkable achievement with their recent honor,” Commissioner Sorenson said. “Kudos to Perrine Elementary for raising the bar for all public schools in Miami-Dade and across the country.”
