It has been a little over a month since I was elected as Mayor of Coral Gables, and as promised during the campaign, I officially embarked on my 100 Days of Listening Tour on May 1st. The purpose of my Listening Tour is to create a more inclusive and open government by enhancing civic engagement, listening to community concerns and suggestions that will help shape the future of Coral Gables.
Since the launch of my Listening Tour, I have met with hundreds of residents, homeowners’ associations, community leaders and civic organizations and my office has received numerous calls, emails, and messages on social media. I have received many great ideas which I intend to integrate, along with a multitude of concerns that me and my staff are working hard to resolve.
In addition, nearly 500 residents and community stakeholders have completed my listening tour survey that was also launched on May 1. Another major accomplishment that has been executed by my office was the formal adoption of the ‘The Mayor’s Strategic Priorities Plan’ which was unanimously approved by the City Commission on June 8. This plan will serve as a roadmap for my next two years as mayor. Not only has this been the first time in the history of Coral Gables that any mayor has sponsored a strategic plan, but it has also been made easily accessible to the public.
The city administration is working on executing the eight main categories outlined in my plan which includes: transparency, accountability, community outreach, enhancing quality of life while encouraging businesses to thrive and enriching the community with culture, maintaining a safe and healthy city, customer- focused service, environmental stewardship, keeping the city beautiful and preserving its historic integrity.
So far, I am pleased at the overwhelming amount of support and feedback that I have been receiving from our local community, which is a testament to the power of community engagement and our active citizenry. I look forward to the completion of my first 100 days and I will always listen to your concerns long after my “Listening Tour” has concluded. Together, I am confident that we can make the city even more beautiful.
