Starting at $28,000, the 2022 Subaru BRZ has a sports car feel with the carmaker’s world famous reliability.

The 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder BRZ delivers 21 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The 228 horsepower direct-injection Subaru Boxer engine has great speed on the available Michelin Pilot Sport 4 performance tires.

The all-new, completely redesigned 2022 Subaru BRZ features a re-tuned suspension, a more rigid chassis, and an upgraded transmission. It’s reengineered to deliver even better handling and even more of that classic rear-wheel-drive excitement that people really love.

Refined by applying decades of street and motorsport experience, the Subaru Boxer engine has pistons that move side to side, canceling out each other’s vibrations, so it can run smoothly across the entire rev range. This compact horizontal layout also allows the engine to be set lower and further back in the vehicle, which improves balance and dynamic response.

The engine delivers a more than a 15 percent increase in torque, at 184 pound-feet. That’s more standard horsepower than the Mini Copper S, Mazda Miata, and Honda Civic Sport, according to Subaru.

Here is an interesting change that makes a lot of difference on the road: Subaru engineers re-tuned the MacPherson struts in front and the multi-link rear suspension to improve the famed BRZ cornering even more. It also widens the rear track for improved stability, reinforcing the suspension mounting points for better performance.

To give it the feel of a sports car, the 2022 BRZ features a reengineered quick-shifting 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and downshift rev-matching, so you can choose between daily driving convenience or high-performance control without your hands ever leaving the wheel. That’s a neat trick.

The chassis and body of the BRZ have been reengineered for lighter weight, and an even lower center of gravity. Taking that and combining it with its quick steering ratio gives you a smooth, direct feel for the road and near-instantaneous response to it.

The 2022 BRZ is also flexible, which gives you more options. It has a rear seatback that can fold down when you need the flexibility to haul more cargo.

The BRZ features STARLINK Multimedia with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Wireless pairing and hands-free smartphone operation allow for safe and easy connection to your favorite apps and content. The 2022 model also comes standard with a larger, upgraded 8-inch touchscreen.

The new 2022 BRZ also has a customizable, fully digital instrument cluster with a central tachometer and integrated g-force meter plus adaptive sport and track modes, so all your important vehicle performance information is available at a glance.

The outside lines make it look fast and powerful, with a black interior that continues those characteristics.

I liked the new 2022 Subaru BRZ because of its performance and you can’t beat all the accessories and confidence that Subaru brings with it.
