Some 700 trees already have been planted in residential areas throughout the City of Coral Gables, as part of the City Beautiful’s Tree Succession Program which began last summer.
Another 480 locations have been identified and staked, completing a third of the approximately 3,000 trees which were promised as part of this citywide project. The planting of the new trees is expected to last until this summer.
Trees are being planted in five zones, moving from north to south, and west to east. The coconut palm removals, relocations, and planting will be conducted separately from the tree planting zones. The city’s contractor, SMF Services, is responsible for the planting of the trees and palms, as well as for the watering and maintenance of the trees, a year after they are planted.
