Mayor Vince Lago, City of Coral Gables

Coral Gables is more than just a city—it’s a community we love, a place we are proud to call home. As we approach our 100th anniversary, we stand at a crossroads: Do we allow poor governance, lack of transparency and a disregard for residents’ voices to shape our future? Or do we continue the work we’ve started—preserving our city’s character, enhancing public safety, and ensuring that government serves the people, not itself?

I am running for re-election because I believe in a future where fiscal responsibility, transparency, and smart growth guide every decision we make. Over the past several years, we’ve accomplished so much together—lowering crime, expanding parks without raising taxes, and keeping Coral Gables one of the most desirable places to live in Florida. But there is still more to do.

Keeping Coral Gables Beautiful & Livable
I have always fought against overdevelopment and will continue to stand against high-density projects that don’t fit our community. Growth must be thoughtful and responsible—enhancing our quality of life, not diminishing it. My commitment is to preserve the beauty and historic character of Coral Gables while ensuring development works for residents, not against them.

More Parks, More Green Space—At No Cost to You
One of my proudest accomplishments has been securing five new parks in our downtown—without costing taxpayers a dime. And I’m not stopping there. My goal for the next term is to deliver five more green spaces, giving families and residents more places to enjoy the outdoors while keeping our city green and vibrant.

Your Safety—My Top Priority
Public safety is the foundation of a thriving city. That’s why we’ve added 15 new police officers and 15 new firefighters, invested over $100 million in public safety, and achieved the lowest crime rate in our city’s history. In my next term, I will continue to invest in our police and fire departments, ensure our first responders have the tools they need, and keep our neighborhoods safe.

A Government That Works for You
For government to be effective, it must be transparent and accountable. That’s why I’ve made myself available to residents—holding open office hours, town halls, and fighting to move elections to November to increase voter participation and save taxpayers over $200,000 per election.

As our city starts its second century, we must renew our commitment to transparency. Trust begins with transparency and accountability. When residents feel their voices are heard and respected, engagement increases, and discourse improves.

To build trust and encourage civil dialogue, I propose that we take several important matters either ignored by the city commission or hidden from the residents directly to the voters via referendums, including rescinding the 101% salary increases approved by the Commission in 2023, moving municipal elections from April to November, and whether the city should have an office of the Inspector General.

With your support, we can continue building a future that honors our past, respects our residents, and ensures that our city remains the beautiful, safe, and thriving community we all love. My promise is simple: I will always put residents first.

Coral Gables is turning 100, and our best days are still ahead. Let’s move forward—together.
