After graduating from Spanish River High School he went on to earn a degree at Florida Atlantic University and then received his MBA from the University of Miami. As an alumnus of UM, Carlin has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at UM’s School of Business Administration and that is just for starters. In fact, he cofounded and helped underwrite the MBA Ethics Fellow Internship program at the University of Miami in 2006. He also co-founded and underwrote the Bermont/Carlin Group Undergraduate program as well as Graduate Scholars program in support of the university’s most outstanding finance majors.

Carlin’s association with UM also includes serving as co-chair of the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Founders Board and as Grand Founder and Ibis Society member at the University of Miami.

Aside from his job as director of Wealth Management and Portfolio Management at The Bermont/Carlin Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Carlin commits time to the boards of trustees for the New World Symphony, Buoniconti Fund, and Cancer Support Community Greater Miami. In the past he has served as a member of the board of trustees for Shake-A-Leg Miami and is a past chair of the Bankers Club Miami Board of Governors. He also has obtained Ordre d’Egalité status at United Way Miami for his support.

Carlin is married to his wife, Channin, of three-and-a-half years and the couple is happily awaiting the birth of twins in December. Now in his 40s, Carlin notes he is getting a bit of a late start but twins should remedy that. Because he is a self described “card carrying workaholic,” he loves to spend his free time with his wife. He said taking shorts trips to great destinations works well for them with his busy schedule.

Carlin believes he has been blessed with relatively few problems. He recognizes this and is sensitive to the fact that others are not so fortunate. That said, he feels it is his responsibility to give back to his community in whatever way he can and he certainly achieves that goal in fine fashion.
