Alina Garcia to discuss elections, voter participation, public trust
Alina Garcia

Elections in Miami-Dade are not abstract. They are not theory. They are real. They are ballots, lines, machines, mail-in envelopes, early voting sites, and a system that must work every single time.

That system sits under the leadership of Alina Garcia, Supervisor of Elections for Miami-Dade County. It is one of the most demanding jobs in public service, because when elections work, most people don’t notice. When they don’t, everyone does.

Miami’s Community Newspapers will host its Monthly Networking Breakfast on Wednesday, July 15, from 7:15 to 9:00 a.m.

The event is expected to be standing room only, bringing together business leaders, community voices, and local decision-makers for a morning conversation that sits right at the center of democracy.

The focus is simple: voter participation, upcoming elections, election integrity.

In Miami-Dade, those are not talking points. They are the system itself. They determine confidence; they determine trust; they determine whether people believe their voice actually counts.

Garcia is expected to speak directly to that reality — what it takes to keep voters engaged, what it takes to run a system this large, and what it takes to prepare for elections that are always under scrutiny, always under pressure, and always under a microscope.

Miami-Dade is one of the largest voting jurisdictions in the country. That means scale is not an advantage. It is a challenge.

Every election cycle brings logistics, technology, staffing, training, and communication demands that never stop. And every part of it has to align.

In elections, small problems don’t stay small; they grow — fast.

One delay becomes a headline; one mistake becomes a question; one question becomes doubt, and doubt is the hardest thing to from which ro rebuild.

That is the job — not just running elections, but protecting the public’s confidence in them. That is why this conversation matters.

Not behind government doors; not filtered through reports, but in a room full of people who actually live with the outcome.

Miami’s Community Newspapers continues to bring these voices together — business leaders, residents, and civic decision-makers — in the same space and at the same table.

Democracy in Miami-Dade is not only decided on Election Day. It is built every day before it.
