A special moment for a Hurricanes legend occurred during the 12th annual UM Sports Hall of Fame & Museum Bowling Tournament, hosted by Alonzo Highsmith, when the host was surprised by county commissioner JC Bermudez with a proclamation making Feb. 27, 2023 “Alonzo Highsmith Day” in Miami-Dade County.
The honor took place during the bowling event at Kings Dining and Entertainment Center in Doral, the area represented by Commissioner Bermudez. More than 150 Hurricane fans gathered for the family-friendly event which featured more than 20 Hall of Fame members and a Celebrity Bowl-Off, won by former Canes football player Duane Starks.
