American Airlines welcomed more than 200 Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida for a day at the American Airlines maintenance hangar at Miami International Airport (MIA) as part of Women in Aviation Day. The Girl Scouts toured a Boeing 777 and connected with American team members to learn about the wide range of career paths available for women in the aviation industry.

“Our MIA team has been proud partners with the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida for the past four years to help inspire the next generation of women in aviation,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of MIA Hub Operations. “At American, we’re deeply committed to fostering meaningful relationships in the communities we serve—and today’s event is a reflection of that.”

Since 2021, American Airlines and the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida have worked together to offer young women an immersive and behind-the-scenes experience in aviation. Each year, interest and engagement continue to grow, with more young girls eager to participate and more American team members volunteering to mentor and share their insights.

“Providing young women mentorship and career advice is really an honor for our team,” said Julie Hughes, American’s Managing Director of Customer Care at MIA. “We are thrilled to welcome the Girl Scouts again this year and hope this encourages them to pursue a career in aviation.”

Chelsea Wilkerson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, emphasizes why it’s important for young girls to feel encouraged to explore a career in aviation.

“Aviation Day with American Airlines gives our Girl Scouts a unique look at what’s possible,” said Wilkerson. “Meeting the women who work in aviation helps our girls see themselves in those roles—and imagine new paths for their future. We’re grateful to American Airlines for helping inspire the next generation of leaders.”
