Twenty-one Miami Dade College (MDC) students were presented with the 2024 Leaders of Promise Scholarship, an award sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation that recognizes Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members nationwide. Each recipient receives $1,000.
The program provides new PTK members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in an associate degree program to develop leadership potential through participation in PTK programs.
“The Leaders of Promise Scholarship is a testament to our students’ hard work and dedication in their first year at MDC. This scholarship recognizes their academic achievements and community involvement,” said Dr. Diego Tibaquirá, lead advisor of the PTK Honors Society chapter at Padrón Campus and Lead Faculty for MDC’s Honors College.
Nineteen of the winners are enrolled in MDC’s prestigious Honors College, a record 16 attend MDC Padrón Campus. The other five represent Homestead, Kendall and North campuses, respectively. In addition, two students were selected Global Leaders of Promise, a designation for international students or students who do not hold a U.S. residency status.
A panel of independent judges selected this year’s recipients from nearly 1,500 applicants. Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars are chosen based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.
