Ansley Elfmont joins TAS as new director of development

Miami native Ansley Elfmont is the new director of development at of the Tropical Audubon Society (TAS).
Since joining the TAS team on June 29, Elfmont has hit the ground running, strengthening donor relationships, cultivating new partnerships and building support for the organization’s growing conservation and education programs.
Her appointment reflects a period of strategic growth for TAS, following the promotion of Lauren Jonaitis to executive director in 2025, and the continued expansion of programs that connect South Floridians with birds, other wildlife and the habitats we share.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to help grow Tropical Audubon Society’s reach and impact,” Elfmont said. “I grew up here loving nature, the outdoors and our amazing wildlife, so it’s truly a dream job for me to be able to connect more people and partners with Tropical Audubon’s conservation mission, and help to ensure that the flora, fauna and wild places that make our region so special are protected.”
In her new role Elfmont will steward the membership program, while cultivating and advancing the philanthropic partnerships that sustain the organization’s mission to protect and restore the region’s fresh water supply and its iconic ecosystems, including the Everglades and Biscayne Bay, mangrove forests, tropical hardwood hammocks and globally imperiled Pine Rocklands.
Supporting this crucial advocacy begins with securing support for education programs including the Tropical Audubon Ambassador series, CHIRP! Exploring the Wonders of Birds & Nature, the Lights Out Miami initiative and Plants for Birds. Additionally, Elfmont’s efforts will help grow the endowment fund and secure earmarked donations for restoration and preservation of the historic Doc Thomas House, 5530 Sunset Dr., that serves as TAS headquarters.
Elfmont brings nearly two decades of experience in nonprofit fundraising, business development, marketing and community engagement to her new role.
Prior to joining the TAS staff, she enjoyed a career that focused on helping mission-driven organizations strengthen donor relationships, build strategic partnerships, and expand community impact across the youth development, education, healthcare and mental health sectors.
She began her career in public relations with one of Miami’s leading PR firms, where she developed a strong foundation in strategic communications, marketing and events management — skills that have shaped her approach to fundraising and nonprofit development throughout her career.
Passionate about connecting people with causes that make a meaningful difference, she has held roles with organizations that include University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, Children’s Bereavement Center, Communities in Schools of Miami, Warrior Health Foundation and Kinder in the Keys Treatment Center.
Elfmont also is the founder of Earthtime Wellness, a nature-based wellness initiative inspired by Blue Health science that encourages people to reconnect with water and nature to support mental well-being and resilience.
