Veteran Miami restaurateur Jorgie Ramos has opened a new Spanish eatery and bar in the heart of South Miami called Bar Bella.
Named for his five year-old daughter Annabella, the welcoming, family-owned Bar Bella opened in mid-November at 5829 SW 73rd Street. According to Ramos, the menu reflects a blend of traditional Basque and Valencian dishes created using American barbecuing and smoking techniques; a nod to Ramos’ wife’s Midwestern roots. A good example is the restaurant’s classic paella, where the broth is made using smoked pork bones, vegetables and aromatics.
“Bar Bella is ideal for sharing small plates, porrón pitchers and stories with friends and family,” says Ramos. “The vibe is unmatched and we’re delighted to be the newest of South Miami’s outstanding restaurants.”
Miami-born Ramos, whose heritage is Cuban and Spanish, can be found in the kitchen where he and his team prepare delicious dishes like caviar cannolis and tapas such as Barcelona’s favorite sandwich: “bikini” grilled cheese with jamon serrano, havarti, fig and truffle aioli.
Be sure to try the sopa de ajo croquetas with garlic aioli and chow chow relish and the pork belly jam-topped smash burger with piquillo aioli and havarti cheese. Among Bar Bella’s selection of barbacoa offerings include duck brisket, pork belly and dino short ribs, all smoked in-house daily.
A handful of desserts balance out the menu with Ramos’ father’s legendary bread pudding and pumpkin cheesecake.
As its name implies, Bar Bella also caters to those in search of a refreshing beverage. The restaurant features an extensive wine selection with a particular focus on Spanish imports. Some of the cocktails have cheeky names that pay homage to local sites such as “Banned from Bougie’s,” a frozen cocktail consisting of peach puree, cranberry, peach liquor and Jägermeister. “Meet Me at The Tree,” made with lime, mint, guarapo, cucumber, soda and Flor de Cana Seco, harkens back to when a massive faux banyan tree lorded over the entrance of the Shops at Sunset Place.
Ramos is well-known for his popular Coral Gables restaurant, Cebada Rooftop, Vice City Pizza, and his former Kendall establishment named Abi Maria, which has been given new life as the lively back bar of Bar Bella, where patrons can enjoy tapas, wine and cocktails in an intimate setting.
Bar Bella is located at 5829 SW 73rd Street in South Miami and is open for dinner service from Tuesday through Thursday from 5 pm to 11 pm and Friday and Saturday from 5 pm to 11:30 pm. For more information, please visit www.bellastapas.com.
