Jorge L. Fors Jr. is running for the Coral Gables City Commission in the Apr. 9 election.

Fors received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida, and Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from St.

Thomas University School of Law.

He is married to Devyn Lopez and has a daughter, Olivia. He is a partner in FORS | Attorneys at Law, 2011-present; immediate-past president of the Coral Gables Bar Association; was named “Rising Star” by Super Lawyer magazine and served as judicial intern to Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy A. Quince.

If elected, what would you do in the first 100 days?

“I would immediately begin working with our police to determine what they need to increase traffic enforcement on our streets without delay; I would like to see a verifiable difference by the end of the 100-day mark. I will also begin working to revisit plans for annexation to ensure it is not carried out in a manner that adversely effects Coral Gables residents and stand against it if that cannot be assured. I will also establish a medium for residents to clearly and easily voice their opinions to me regarding, among other things, proposed development projects in their neighborhoods.”

What motivated you to run for office?

“When I recently became a father, I grew more concerned about ensuring my children grow up in the same Coral Gables I did, but even more vibrant. As we move further into the 21st Century, our city will face new, difficult challenges, including technology, aggressive growth, and forces of nature. I did not want to stay on the sidelines and decided to put myself in a position where I can actually take direct action when either me or one of my fellow residents has a good idea or identifies a problem, rather than merely emailing elected officials about it.”

Why do you think you would be the best candidate for the position?

“I believe our city is ready to move forward after overcoming legacy issues like underfunded pension liability and lack of financial oversight. I believe residents want and need a fresh-face that is committed to keeping our city on the right path and thriving without losing sight of its historic and residential character. I am a lifelong resident and small business owner that most closely represents our average resident. I will pay attention to the small issues that directly affect our residents’ quality of life, with clear vision, unobstructed by any stale alliances or grudges, and always guided by common sense.”
