Ralph Cabrera is running for the Coral Gables City Commission in the Apr. 9 election.
Cabrera has been a resident of Coral Gables for more than 52 years. He raised his family in the city, and his parents still live here.
His business, Cabrera Benefits Group, has been based in Coral Gables since 2001.
He was a child when his parents emigrated from Cuba in 1967. Cabrera attended Coral Gables Senior High where he was a member of the football team and student government. He went on to attend Florida International University and earned a BA in Business. He served on the Coral Gables Commission for 12 years, and has served as a member of numerous community organizations.
If elected, what would you do in the first 100 days?
“If elected, I will focus my first 100 days on issues residents care about most. This will include, but is not limited to keeping our community safe; upholding our zoning code to ensure development is smart, compatible and in scale to residential neighborhoods; improving city services through automation; continuing to support and enhance sustainability and green efforts; spending money wisely, and maintaining transparency and accountability in all aspects of government.”
What motivated you to run for office?
“I am motivated to run because I believe we have many issues facing the City of Coral Gables. I also believe we need a strong experienced leader who can make a difference. I have a proven track record of fostering new ideas, enforcing rules and achieving goals. As Coral Gables Commissioner, I will work with diligence and dedication for every stakeholder in our community.”
Why do you think you would be the best candidate for the position?
“I believe I am the best candidate for the position because as a 52-year resident and former Coral Gables Commissioner, I continue to be deeply committed to the well-being of Coral Gables. I have the experience, knowledge and track record of protecting the city’s unique quality of life. I will focus on making the needs of the residents my first priority. I will take a proactive and inclusive approach to solving problems. I will also focus on keeping our community safe, improving city services and enriching our city’s livability.”
