No grass grows under the feet of the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club which just held a major fundraiser for its children’s dental clinic and two weeks later members were raising funds once again for two additional charities: NPH USA and Relay for Life Cancer Walk.
Seasons 52 generously hosted an after hours event that raised more than $700 to be split between the two charitable groups. More than 35 guests enjoyed wine, beer and Seasons 52’s famous flatbreads while taking chances on numerous raffle prizes and meeting new people.
NHP’s Kristy Fueyo and this writer, both CGWC members, were delighted with the generous support of so many club members, Rotarians, friends and especially of Denise Erwin, of Seasons 52, who is a philanthropist in her own right supporting events for Charity Water and Global Medical Brigade. By the way, Seasons 52 Flights and Flatbreads are now being offered throughout the day and evening.
In other club news, the District Federation of Women’s Club held a “Star Studded” fashion show at Jungle Island on Mar. 22. Dressing up as various pop culture and historical women, models chosen from clubs in the district brought down the house with their show titled “Stars of Miami.” Especially memorable for this writer were “Dinah Shore” and “Cher,” among a handful that actually performed live with no rehearsal. All in all it was a great afternoon to benefit scholarships for UM medical students.

Mark your calendars for two great upcoming charity events. On Saturday, Apr. 26, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables will host its annual charity event, a casino night at the Courtyard Marriott, 2051 S. LeJeune Rd., in Coral Gables, with proceeds being directed this year to NPH USA’s orphanage in Haiti. With a Kentucky Derby theme, guests are encouraged to dress the part and join the club for an evening of gaming, horse racing, food, dancing and chances to win some great travel packages and more, all for $100 per person. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets may be purchased on Paypal with any major credit card at www.coralgablesrotary.org.
Then, on May 1, golfers will want to join the fun at the third annual Woody Golf Classic at Miami International Links presented by the The Woody Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding persons with severe spinal injuries. Organizers from The Woody Foundation have announced that proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit The Buoniconti Fund, the fundraising arm of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. The Classic will begin with registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m. at Miami International Links, 1802 NW 37 Ave. in Miami, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. An awards dinner will follow at 5:30 p.m. Entry fee of $350 includes not only meals and beverages, but also signature prizes and games at every hole. Individual tickets to the Awards Dinner also may be purchased for $50.
