Clutch Burger won the 8th Annual Wings For Wishes chicken wing competition with a recipe that wasn’t even on their official menu.
Clutch Burger owner Steve Bradley credits chef/wife Ana Bradley with putting together the special chicken wing recipe that took the top spot at the 8th Annual Wings For Wishes on April 2.
Unlike his competitors who used rubs or served their chicken wings “dry,” with no flavoring, Clutch Burger’s wings were slathered in a spicy, orange-peel sauce, a favorite with the public, which were elbow-to-elbow at his tent at the outdoor event.
“Big T’s Wings were on our secret menu, until recently,” said Steve Bradley, co-owner of Coral Gables-based Clutch Burger. “They are named after a customer who came to our business with his 9-year-old son during COVID. They came every day.”
Celebrating its fourth year on July 1, Clutch Burger, at 146 Giralda Ave. in Coral Gables, features the Volcano burger, steak sandwiches and the Swolf burger, made with seared Duroc pork belly.
Steve says that his chicken wing making team included friends who own title, public relations and cigar businesses, who made the public part of their experience. They all yelled and screamed every time someone voted for their wings to win. That raised the level of excitement throughout the day.
“We had a party at the tent and made it a lot of fun for everyone,” Steve said. “We had a great time.”
The 8th Annual Wings For Wishes event was held outside Sports Grill Miami, 1500 block of Sunset Drive, and was presented by Make-A-Wish Southern Florida. Make-A-Wish Southern Florida is a nonprofit started in 1983 that serves children and families in 22 Florida counties in Southeast and Southwest Florida, the Tampa Bay and Suncoast regions and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It provides life-changing experiences for children with critical illnesses.
Steve says the secret to Clutch Burger’s success is simple: “We are a mom-and-pop business that loves our guests.”
