The Coral Gables Congregational Church is partnering with the world hunger relief organization Rise Against Hunger https://www.riseagainsthunger.org/ to host an event to package highly nutritious dried food for those in need throughout the world.
The event will take place at the Church’s Fellowship Hall between nine a.m. and noon October 23, 2021. Persons wishing to volunteer must register in advance with the church or Rise Against Hunger. Donations may be made directly to Rise Against Hunger, or to the Church.
Here’s how it works. An organization hosts a food packing event. The host supplies volunteers to pack bulk food into individual meals. The organization (RAH) provides the food, training on the packaging, and all the necessary supplies. The organization then helps oversee the packaging, and distributes them worldwide.
The Church coordinates the organization, gathers volunteers to do the packaging; provides a clean place to work, and helps raise funds to pay for the food, materials, and distribution costs.
“While outside volunteers are welcome and encouraged to contact the church and sign up, we need community awareness and, more importantly, community financial support,” said Michael Maxwell, a member of the congregation and one of the volunteer organizers. “We must raise a minimum of $3,500 to pay for the 10,000 meals expected to be packaged that day,” he said.
Food will be distributed in Haiti and other nations needing emergency food assistance. .
RAH has packaged over 540 million meals, each year, engaging hundreds of thousands of volunteers globally.
