The City of Coral Gables will launch a one-year pilot of a new Southern Loop Trolley route beginning Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. The free route will extend trolley service from the Douglas Road Metrorail Station to Red Road (Southwest 57th Avenue) via Ponce de Leon Boulevard, improving access to key destinations including the University of Miami, medical offices, schools and other community hubs.
The Southern Loop Trolley offers residents, students and visitors a no-cost, accessible and convenient transportation option that connects directly with Metrorail and the city’s two existing trolley routes. The pilot reflects Coral Gables’ commitment to innovation, connection and accessibility, enhancing mobility while supporting the City Beautiful’s vision for a more sustainable and connected community.
Funded in part by the Florida Department of Transportation, the one-year pilot will allow the city to evaluate ridership data and collect community feedback to determine whether to continue the route beyond the pilot period.
“This new Southern Loop Trolley expands our community’s mobility network and offers an easy, free and sustainable way to move around the city” said Parking, Sustainability and Mobility Services Director Monica Beltran. “It embodies our city’s focus of innovation, accessibility and connection — ensuring everyone can enjoy Coral Gables safely and conveniently.”
