Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera announces the creation and expansion of the County’s new Septic-to-Sewer Financial Assistance Program, aimed at improving public health.
Thanks to a resolution sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera, along with Commissioners Juan Carlos Bermudez and Micky Steinberg, this program has officially launched. Their efforts secured a significant $10 million allocation—double the initial $5 million budget—to provide enhanced financial relief for residents transitioning to the centralized sanitary sewer system.
“Today marks a significant step forward in our commitment to both our environment and residents. The health and safety of our community are at the forefront of this initiative,” said Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera. “The financial assistance available through this program will relieve the burden on families, offering grants and low-cost loans to those who need it most.”
The program offers homeowners access to grants, zero-percent interest loans, and low-interest loans, with up to $15,000 available for eligible households. These resources are designed to reduce environmental risks from failing septic systems, which contribute to water pollution, including impacts on Biscayne Bay.
Through the Connect 2 Protect initiative, the County targets areas most vulnerable to septic tank failures, focusing on public health and resource preservation. The program reflects a broader commitment to modernizing infrastructure and promoting sustainable development throughout Miami-Dade.
