The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has unanimously approved a resolution introduced by Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera aimed at improving the process for seniors and individuals with disabilities to obtain a Golden Passport for Miami-Dade Transit.

Commissioner Cabrera emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We are committed to simplifying public transportation for our seniors.” He further emphasized, “Ensuring that transit use is quick, easy, and simple is crucial, particularly for our seniors and those with disabilities. Today we took a major step toward streamlining the Golden Passport application process, prioritizing accessibility for all.”

The Golden Passport program currently enables qualifying seniors and Social Security recipients to ride Miami-Dade public transit for free using an EASY card. However, applicants must apply in person at the Miami-Dade Transit Golden Passport Office, a 311 Service Center, or certain community centers.

Under Commissioner Cabrera’s resolution, the administration will look into allowing seniors to use a Florida ID or driver’s license to access transit through the Golden Passport program or participate in other accessible alternatives.
