The Coral Gables Community Foundation recently announced the appointment of Mauricio Vivero, a nationally respected philanthropy leader, as its next chief executive officer.
Vivero succeeds Mary Snow, who during the past decade increased annual community impact from less than $100,000 to over $5 million. He will lead the foundation into its next chapter, advancing its legacy of impactful giving and expanding its impact locally and beyond.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Mauricio to the Coral Gables Community Foundation family,” said Michael Walsh, chair of the board of directors and principal at Evensky & Katz Foldes. “He brings a rare blend of local roots, global perspective, and philanthropic expertise that will be a tremendous asset to our organization. Mauricio’s lifelong commitment to public service and strategic giving aligns seamlessly with our mission to enhance lives — not just in Coral Gables, but across the region and even the world — through nimble, powerful philanthropy.”
With a distinguished career spanning nonprofit leadership, government relations, and social impact strategy, Vivero has helped channel over $200 million in philanthropic grants to causes around the globe. He most recently served as head of partnerships for a private foundation in New York City and corporate secretary of the Global Impact Social Welfare Fund.
Additional experience includes serving as founding CEO of the Seattle International Foundation, where he led the organization for nine years, advancing international development efforts. He has advised high-impact organizations including Segal Philanthropies, National Council of Nonprofits, Guidestar, and the Center for Lobbying in the Public Interest. His extensive experience in government relations includes serving as vice president of the Legal Services Corporation, director of Government Relations for Independent Sector, and director of Grassroots Lobbying for the American Bar Association.
He holds a BA from Florida International University and a JD from Creighton University.
“I am honored to join an institution that has been a force for good in the community for over 30 years,” Vivero said. “The Coral Gables Community Foundation is a catalyst for meaningful change, and I’m looking forward to helping deepen its impact across education, arts, historic preservation, health and social services, and other vital community needs.”
The announcement comes on the heels of several successful initiatives by the foundation, including the launch of its first-ever Community Needs Assessment and the record-breaking distribution of $3.25 million in college scholarships through its 2025 Scholarship Program.
Made possible by the foundation’s generous donors, 207 scholarship awards were presented to students from 76 high schools, marking the organization’s largest single-year distribution to date.
