Coral Gables High School student Joseph Paz has been selected as the 2013 Florida Police Athletic League (PAL) “Boy of the Year” for his outstanding contribution to the community. The selection was announced at the recent Florida PAL Youth Directors Conference.

Paz has been an active member of the Coral Gables Police Athletic League program for many years.

“I am extremely honored to be selected by PAL,” said the 17-year-old student who has participated in this organization since 2008. “I have learned valuable lessons through this organization and the positive influence they can have in developing leadership skills at a young age.”

Paz is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Magnet and Advanced Placement program at Coral Gables High School and holds a 4.7 GPA. He also is an active member of the National Honor Society, as well as the Future Business Leaders of America. He is on the football and varsity soccer teams at Coral Gables High and hopes to continue his studies at the U.S. Naval Academy.

In addition to his involvement with PAL, Paz has participated in the Coral Gables Police Explorers since 2010 and has devoted hundreds of hours for community activities through these two organizations such as feeding the homeless at Camillus House, assisting with the Key Biscayne Restoration Program, as well as the Junior Orange Bowl Festival’s Sports Ability Games.

Paz will receive his award at the annual Florida PAL Membership Luncheon to take place in Orlando in August.
