Coral Gables Hospital achieves several noteworthy accomplishments in 2017

The employees, medical staff and administrative team at Coral Gables Hospital worked diligently throughout 2017 to provide the community with high-quality care. The hospital celebrated many recognitions and achievements in 2017.

Following are the top noteworthy accomplishments:
• Coral Gables Hospital was the first in Miami Dade to achieve designation by the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its Total Hip Replacement and Total Knee Replacement by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care.

The certification standardizes care for all hip and knee replacement patients based on effective and consistent use of appropriate, evidence-based clinical practice from pre-surgical consultation to education following discharge.

• Coral Gables Hospital earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

•Cristina Jimenez was named CEO and is responsible for all strategic, operational and clinical initiatives at the hospital. She began her career at Coral Gables Hospital and has served in various roles over a more than 30-year span. In her previous role as chief operating officer, Jimenez oversaw operations for all non-nursing departments and managed the overall direction of the facility licensure and regulatory accreditations.

• Coral Gables Hospital received a top safety score by achieving an “A” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Coral Gables Hospital received this recognition as one of the safest hospitals in the United States. The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog, assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” and “F” letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provides the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S. Coral Gables Hospital was one of 832 awarded an “A” for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the country.

• In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Coral Gables Hospital held a blood and platelet drive to replenish the local blood supply. The hospital partnered with OneBlood, a local not-for-profit blood center. Refreshments were served and a wellness checkup of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron count was offered.
