Karen Rodriguez, RN, recently received recognition as Coral Gables Hospital’s newest DAISY Award winner. She works in the hospital’s Surgical Step-Down Unit and was commended for her compassion with patients and their families.

“One of the reasons Karen earned this award is because she exemplifies everything a nurse should be,” said Patrick Downes, CEO of Coral Gables Hospital. “We congratulate her for earning this honor and appreciate the dedication and care she has provided our patients.”

Rodriguez has earned the respect of her colleagues for her willingness to go the extra mile and her openness to assist any department that needs an extra hand. She creates such a positive impact on her patients that they often express their gratitude even after they leave the hospital.

The DAISY Foundation was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes after he passed away from an autoimmune disease. His family was so touched by the compassion and hope provided by the nurses who cared for him that they created the DAISY Award. The award honors nurses who provide excellent patient care while simultaneously providing extraordinary emotional support to patients and their families.
