Coral Gables Hospital recognized Idalia Moro, RN, for being named 2014’s fourth quarter DAISY Award winner. Moro has worked in the hospital’s Medical-Surgical Unit for seven years.
Her co-worker’s said they admire her compassionate demeanor and look forward to working with her every day. Patients have described her as an “angel” whose caring personality helps them heal faster.
“We are proud of Idalia for going above and beyond to positively impact the lives of those around her,” said Jeff M. Welch, CEO of Coral Gables Hospital. “We feel lucky to have her as a member of the Coral Gables Hospital family.”
Moro was presented the “Extraordinary Nurse” award at the hospital’s nursing unit holiday party. The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.”
She also received a sculpture, called “A Healer’s Touch,” that was hand-carved by the artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
The DAISY Foundation was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes after he died of an autoimmune disease. His family was so touched by the compassion and hope provided by the nurses who cared for him that they created the DAISY Award. The award honors nurses who provide excellent patient care while simultaneously providing extraordinary emotional support to patients and their families.
